VOYAGER

Idle Motion from Oxford

NEW DIORAMA THEATRE

7:30pm
Price: £14.50, £13.50 concs

Captioned performance Wed 1 Jun

In 1977 the Voyager spacecraft was launched on its journey of discovery to the outer edges of the solar system. It is now 12 billion miles from home, the furthest anything has ever travelled and has tipped into Interstellar space. Attached to the outside is a ‘Golden Record’, a time capsule containing sounds and music from Earth should it meet anyone along the way.

Inspired by these remarkable events award nominated Idle Motion will begin on earth, following three individual journeys of those looking beyond our own world out into the darkness.

Using their stunning blend of multimedia, inventive staging and physicality Voyager will reflect upon humanity’s relationship with space, how we have always looked to the sky for answers and our ambition to step out into the unknown.

ABOUT THE COMPANY

Since 2008, Idle Motion have collaborated six shows together, touring extensively nationally and internationally. We create visual theatre placing human stories at the heart of our work, integrating creative stagecraft, video projection and physicality. We are proud to be Resident Ensemble at New Diorama Theatre and Artistic Associates at Oxford Playhouse.

PROGRAMMER'S NOTE

Idle Motion are one of my favourite theatre companies. The level of invention they exhibit, the stories they tell and the warmth audiences have for the company make them one of the best young companies in the UK today. Now a Resident Ensemble at New Diorama this latest piece promises to be their most ambitious and exciting yet.

CREATIVITY IN OXFORD

All members of Idle Motion met at The Cherwell School in Oxford. In 2008 we began taking shows to Edinburgh Fringe and since then have grown rapidly into an international touring company. We have received mentorship from Oxford Playhouse since 2010 and have performed at three of Oxford’s main theatres regularly providing workshops for local schools.
